Programs
Training and Human Resource Development
While an on-the-job training is, at present, being conducted in the course of the employee’s attaining an acceptable proficiency level, a formal and structured competency-based training and human resources development program, as against the traditional academic method, shall be set in place through the establishment of a “Vocational – Technical Training Center for Persons with ‘This’ Ability”.
Given the requirements of the workforce and the profile of our target partici-pants, the competency-based training program is the most applicable and relevant developmental methodology to use, as against the traditional class-room type learning model. Competency is defined as a set of Knowledge, Skills and Attitude (K, S, A) needed to perform the work activities within the standards expected in the workplace.
Competency standards, on the other hand, are measurements or outcome of a particular skill. Or simply stated, competency standards are almost syn-onymous to performance standards. In this regard, in the competency based training program, consistency and alignment between the perform-ance and standards expected of the workplace is achieved.

The TV5 and PPCRV Presidential Forum
February 11, 2010
On February 7, 2010, Sunday, "Ang Pagbabago 2010" Presidential Forum was held at the Auditorium of Miriam College, Quezon City. This Forum is organized by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) in cooperation with TV5 News and Public Affairs.
The ten presidential candidates confirmed their attendance to this much-awaited Forum but due to unavoidable circumstances, four didn't make it. Moderator-host was none other than Paolo Bediones, in his first news-anchoring job on TV5, with Anna de Villa-Singson as co-host.
It is the aim of this Forum to make the participants know more about the presidential candidates and their plans and programs. The debate was divided into four rounds: first, Candidate vs. Candidate; second, Candidate vs. Panel of Experts; third, Candidate vs. Sectoral Groups; and fourth, Final Statement.
Selected respondents from the audience were interviewed after the forum. Each has given their opinion about the candidates basing on their performances during the debate.
As eligible persons with disabilities (PWDs) are not exempted to the upcoming 2010 Elections and to show support, ten representatives of The Nova Foundation for Differently Abled Persons, Inc. have participated to this Forum.
This Forum was aired on TV5 at 9:30pm on the same day

This event is just like any other "jobs fair" held every year to help persons with disabilities (PWDs) find jobs but this time with a twist. Organizations catering or serving the need of PWDs will showcase their products and services instead of the usual employers/companies setting-up their booths. Each organization will be classified according to their line of services offered. The NOVA Foundation for Differently Abled Persons was invited to participate in this event, under the category for ICT and/or BPO. A short presentation on the products and services of Nova Foundation was shown during said skills expo. There was also an actual demonstration in Data Encoding simulation by NOVA-CBM Graduates. Other participating organizations were Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf (MCCID), Catholic Deaf Care, Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, Katipunan ng May Kapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. and others. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and TESDA, were also present. Some companies/employers joined this Expo: Home Guarantee Corp., Phil-Job Net, Bioessence, Development Bank of the Philippines and Puregold. Another booth was assigned for PWD guests who wish to avail of skills training offered by participating organizations. It is with high hopes that this Expo would serve as an eye-opener to other employers/companies to give an opportunity for persons with disabilities. |

SAMBOY LIM, ENDORSER OF EXCEL FUSION, OPENS A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR PWDS
April 14, 2009 - Messrs. Willy Ingles, Ed Arcilla, Dinky Villanueva and Samboy Lim, the legendary "Sky Walker" of the Philippine Backetball Association, representatives form Excel Fusion, have visited NOVA-CBM ICT Training Center.
After a biref introduction about the company, fusion Excel, they have presented the Quantum Pendant, a product made from natural minerals that would benefit one's health and well-being. Series of tests were administered to the trainees and staff of the Center and it was noticed that there is a significant increase in overall balance, flexibility and strength. What is more amazing is that when the Quantum Pendant was tried to our 3'11ft Training Admin Clerk (Grace), the result was really surprising.
Fusion Excel Quantum Pendant, with some other products, was introduced to The Nova Foundation for Differently Abled Persons, Inc. primarily because of the health benefits the products can give and the profit that PWDs can achieved. As jobs are very limited for persons with disabilities like the Deaf and the orthopedically impaired, the advent of Quantum Pendant and related products opens a new opportunity for PWDs. Ingles had mentioned in his presentation that persons with disabilities, in particular persons with hearing impairment, are the top sellers of these products in Malaysia.

Personal Enhancement & Corporate Training:
BEHAVIORAL TRAINING (BT) Course - February 12, 2009
Included in the 10-week Training Program of NOVA-CBM is the Personal Enhancement and Corporate Training Behavioral Training (BT) Course.
This Course provides extensive training in the preparation of differently abled persons for a professional work life through personal reflections sessions, lecturettes, workshops, focus group discussions and structured learning exercises.
The first BT session for Batch 14 Trainees was held last Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Sacro Costato Retreat House in Quezon City. The BT was facilitated by Mr. Ariel Felix Ortilla with Ms. Lynn Garcia as Interpreter for the Deaf.
The trainees had gone through batteries of tests as intelligence, aptitude and psychological. With this activity, the trainees would be able to get familiarized to the different types of tests that are usually given to job applicants. The trainees had different reactions to the series of tests given to them. Nevertheless, it was a new learning experience for most of them.
It was a tough day for everybody; we left the place still with smiles on our faces.
