HOLY ANGEL UNIVERSITY (HAU) DONATES COMPUTERS
August 22, 2005Good news for computer trainees with disabilities!
The Board of Trustees of Holy Angel University, through its President, Ms. Bernadette M. Nepomuceno, and son, Manny, of its IT Division, recently gave the NOVA Foundation for Differently Abled Persons, Inc. a big boost with its donation of some 150 computers received by its President and Trustee, Mr. Manuel V. Agcaoili. Witnessed by partner NCWDP Executive Director Catalina L. Fermin, the donation was formalized in a meeting in this cool and high tech Angeles City-based campus last June 13, 2005. The university takes pride in its zero tuition fee increase and long years of excellent quality education. It also houses a world-class museum with rich history and cultural items any Pampango, and Filipino for that matter, could be very proud of.
Mr. Noli V. Agcaoili reported that their Foundation saw for themselves that with quality training in a corporate setup, PWDs deliver, and turn in 99.9% accuracy in data encoding. From seven, NOVA now runs a pool of 57 PWD encoders in Metro Manila with two pilot groups in Davao and Cebu. With HAU’s donation, this number is expected to double.
Mr. Agcaoili is also the President of the Phil. Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD), a member of the NCWDP Board and his favorite hat, Chairman of the Council’s Sub-Committee on ICT. This is where he mostly channels his energy because he believes ICT is a powerful liberating economic tool for the sector. Studies also show the growing market for Pinoy technologists and offshore sourcing is here to stay due mainly to our skill in English and practical factors.
Things are certainly looking up for our persons with disabilities, and the Holy Angel University has just reinforced this bright and sunny forecast. Portion of the donated computers will be distributed to several organizations for the disabled sector through the NCWDP, in support of their individual administrative and training needs. It is of no surprise that Holy Angel University’s corporate social responsibility has had far-reaching impact on, and been meaningful to the lives that they have touched.
